“Safe Space”’ as defined in Oxford Dictionary:

Noun. a place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm. Example: "school must be a safe space for LGBT students"

SYV Pride adds to the definition above to include the warm embrace, celebration, and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community and other unrepresented or marginalized groups.

To be included in the Safe Space Directory, the business or organization must: 
 

1. Support SYV Pride’s mission of creating a safe, supportive, and empowering home for LGBTQ+ members in the Santa Ynez Valley.
    

2. Visibly and proudly display that they are a “safe space”—this could be a flag, a sticker, social media presence, etc.
    

3. Support SYV Pride’s Annual Parade and Festival – participate, promote, donate!
